Mahabharata
Yogafest
last night i went to see Mahabharata: www.mahabharata-tour.com
it never ceases to amaze me how us 'moderns' can translate historical texts (Mahabharata as you might know is a 74,000 verse Indian epic work)
i came out of the theatre feeling like i had been bathing for eternity in the ganges.. i was really moved and felt cleansed, and was convinced that the mere performance of this ancient work had pure mantric qualities.
overhearing some of the views from those behind me in the theatre and more conversations with friends later, it appeared that our understandings of the performance really corresponded with our own stages of consciousness evolution - i loved hearing one person call it a tragedy when others saw the battle that ensued as symbollic of the journey we go through of shedding our monkey like minds and going beyond the territory of cerebral junk - to the infinate bliss that awaits us always, like a patient friend.
if its coming to a town near you, dont miss it - apart from being a wonderfully clever version of a very encrypted work, it was accompanied by a fine orchestra and 'real' indianvibed singers whose voices stopped time as they climbed the Kosmos.
